Adopt a Beaver

American beavers are the largest rodents in North America, growing from two to three feet long, not including the tail, and weighing up to sixty pounds. They have dark-brown waterproof fur and webbed feet. Like all rodents, beavers' teeth grow continuously throughout their lives. They are covered in thick enamel, which allows beavers to gnaw through trees, which they fell to build dams to create the wetlands that they and many other species rely on as habitat. Beavers also build homes called lodges out of branches and mud, which can often only be accessed from underwater entrances. Beavers live in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams throughout the continental United States, except in the desert areas of the Southwest.
