Adopt a Tapir

Tapirs are related to horses and rhinoceroses but look similar to pigs with trunks. Scientists believe that these animals have changed little in millions of years of evolution. The tapir's trunk is really an extended nose and upper lip. Tapirs are vegetarian browsers that feed on leaves and branches. They don't forage on the ground. They have few natural predators due to the thick skin on the backs of their necks and are able to run fairly quickly finding shelter in thick underbrush. However, they are on the Endangered Species list largely due to hunting for their meat and hides and the result of habitat loss. Adopt a tapir today!
