Adopt a Roadrunner

The roadrunner is a member of the Cuckoo family (Cuculidae) and is known for scooting across the American deserts. This back-and-white mottled ground bird has feet with two forward toes and two behind toes. When a roadrunner senses danger, it flies short distances but cannot keep its large body airborne for more than a few seconds – so it prefers walking or running. They inhabit open terrain scattered with brush or other desert scrub. Because of their lightening speed, roadrunners are one of the few animals that prey upon rattlesnakes. Loss of habitat and urban encroachment are major threats to the roadrunner's existence. Construction of roads through the roadrunners natural habitat and the increase in vehicle activity also pose a threat. Adopt a roadrunner today!
