Adopt a Sea Turtle

Green turtles are the largest of the hard-shelled sea turtles and can grow to more than 3 feet long and weigh as much as 400 pounds. They can be found in tropical and subtropical waters along continental coasts and islands throughout the world. Of all the sea turtles, only the green turtle is primarily a plant eater, feeding on sea grasses and algae. Grazing by green turtles helps to keep sea grass beds healthy and productive, and sea grass beds are important nurseries for many marine species. A major threat to the survival of sea turtles are the harvesting of turtles and their eggs, which still continues today in some parts of the world. There are many additional threats. Their nesting and feeding habitat is being destroyed or degraded by pollution. Green turtles are also damaged by boat propellers and accidentally captured in many kinds of fishing gear. Help NWF in its efforts to protect and recover the wild places that sustain wildlife. Adopt a sea turtle today!
